IMTC-Chennai
- The first training centre to be affiliated to the Indian Montessori Centre was set up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in 1998, by the Centre for Montessori Training, Chennai. CMTC was established with the guidance of the illustrious Montessorian, Smt. Meenakshi Sivaramakrishnan. In April 1999, the very first batch of students received their Diplomas, on completion of the 10-month primary course. Later, CMTC metamorphosed into Indian Montessori Training Courses, Chennai.
- Since 1998, around 1500 students have successfully completed the diploma courses and about 50 schools have been established by the alumni of IMTC-Chennai. The 47th batch of IMTC-Chennai’s is due to complete their course in May 2022 and the 48th Primary Montessori course will begin in June 2022. With the onset of the pandemic, IMTC-Chennai adapted successfully to the blended model of e-learning, with online theory classes and in-person practice sessions, at multiple centres. - By 2005, CMTC moved to the western districts of Tamil Nadu and conducted courses, in the ensuing years, at Coimbatore, Erode and Tiruppur. This eventually led to the establishment of IMTC-Erode in 2016. A notable achievement of CMTC / IMTC-Chennai is the training of teachers for the introduction of the Montessori method in the schools run by the Chennai Corporation, commencing 2004.
- In addition to the Primary courses, in 2011, the one-year Elementary course was launched and was incubated at IMTC-Chennai till 2021. IMTC Elementary – Chennai is now running as an independent training centre.
- IMC’s Tamil Nadu Chapter, a forum for alumni, was inaugurated in 2001 and has been instrumental in spreading the awareness in Tamil Nadu through the conduct of teacher and parenting workshops, seminars, conferences and holding exhibitions.

IMTC-Erode
In 2005-2006 the first Montessori Primary course (2 1/2 – 6 years) was conducted in Erode, by CMTC /and since 2010, primary courses are being held regularly in Erode, Coimbatore, Tirupur with CMTC / IMTC-Chennai. In 2017, IMTC-ERODE was formed with Ms. Uma Shankar as the Director and Ms. D. Janaki Raja as the Associate Director. Now we have 2 centers located at Coimbatore and Erode. There are about 25 schools established in the Kongu region by the alumni of IMTC-Chennai and IMTC-Erode. IMTC Erode has been instrumental in spreading awareness about Montessori throughout the Kongu region of Tamilnadu by conducting workshops and seminars for parents and teachers. IMTC Erode also offers consultancy support
for schools to set up Montessori environments. The students of the 4th batch of IMTC-Erode are due to complete their course in May 2022 and the 5th Primary Montessori course is to commence in June 2022.
