The Indian Montessori Centre has been offering the Indian Montessori Training Courses since 1939. The first sixteen courses were conducted by Dr. Maria Montessori with the help of her son Mr. Mario Montessori. From 1952 to 1980 these courses were conducted by Dr. Maria Montessori's personal representative Mr. A. M. Joosten. After Mr. A. M. Joosten's demise in 1980, Mr. S. R. Swamy took over as Course Director and continued the good work till he retired in 1990.
In 1990 the responsiblity of training was entrusted to Mrs. Meenakshi Sivaramakrishnan, a very dedicated Montessorian. Mrs. Meenakshi Sivaramakrishnan has conducted several training programmes and has also published several books on Montessori Education. She obtained the Training for Trainers certificate from the Associate Montessori Internationale (AMI) after training under Mr. S. R. Swamy, and Mrs. Estela Palmieri of the Montessori Institute of Los Angeles.
